Here we go:
Twin-clutch Transmission
Double-clutch Transmission
Semi-Automatic Transmission
Clutchless Manual Transmission
Automated Manual Transmission
& last but not least, the most promoted one:Direct-shift Gearbox (DSG)
Basically a Dual-Clutch Transmission can be seen as two manual transmissions working as one. Instead of having all gears on a single input shaft like a manual transmission, the Dual Clutch Transmission splits the odd and even gears on two input shafts. This way there is a constant power delivery and fast changing of the gears.
The first idea for a similar transmission was already born in the thirties in wartime but run over by the rise of the torque converter automatics. In the early eighties the DCTs came alive in the racing industry. The success evolved in the desire to bring a bit of the racing spirit to the every-day driver.
After all, is there not a racer in all of us, every now and then?
