Credits for inventing this transmission go to two French men, called Emile Levassor and Louis-Rene Panhard who built a three-speed transmission back in 1894. They used a chain drive, which was later on replaced by a drive shaft by a small car maker called Louis Renault. He also added a differential axle for the rear wheels. He was so sure of the capabilities of his first car, called the Voiturette, he officially challenged the current cars with a chain drive. His bold statement not only brought him victory but also 13 orders placed on the spot.
This design set the base for many manual transmissions to come.
We hope you enjoy the ride!
