This unique event brought a couple of "firsts" to the U.K. by flying in Transmission Digest editor Mike Weinberg to give his fascinating insight into transfer case 4x4 units and their relationship with the other modules making up the modern power train system. The delegates enjoyed Mike's unique delivery of a slightly different perspective at looking at diagnosis and problem solving and many commented afterwards that they would think more about the whole vehicle and it's related systems than just the element that appeared to have problems when attempting any repairs or rebuilds.
This was followed by sessions taken by ATSG owner and also Transmission Digest technical Editor Wayne Colonna who was making his fourth visit to Europe to hold a Automatic Choice Technical Seminar.
The next "first" was Wayne's very comprehensive presentation of the VW/Audi group's DSG Direct Shift Gearbox, which is believed to be the first technical presentation to the aftermarket on this transmission in the world.
This was followed by a diagnosis/teardown session on the Audi 01J Multitronic CVT unit which was eagerly anticipated by the majority of the delegates, and it certainly exploded many of the myth's and mysteries surrounding this unit which hard as it may seem has been with us since 1999. Wayne followed this up with the Asian Warner 6 speed commonly known as the AF40 or 09G which is now fitted in many European vehicles including VW/Audi group, Opel, Volvo, Saab, Lancia to name a few.
Finally the day was concluded with ZF industries 6 speed transmissions known as 6HP19/26/32 etc, which is now commonplace in many workshops around the world. Wayne gave a thorough explanation of it's construction an operation remarking that it shares striking similarities with the General Motors 6L80E unit that is used extensively in Domestic U.S. vehicles.
In bringing this event to it's customers Automatic Choice were proven right in their efforts to bring not one but two of the most respected experts in their fields to the U.K. by the 100% take up of offered places at the seminar, and would like to thank Mike and Wayne for helping to provide a very interesting, successful and above all enjoyable event which was borne out by the many personal commendations made by the delegates after the event.
