New for the DP0/AL4 Transmission
Auxiliary Oil Cooler Adaptor |

This adaptor allows for the fitting of an auxiliary oil cooler to vehicles with DP0 or AL4 transmissions.
Excessive transmission fluid temperatures can contribute to many of the problems experienced with these units after rebuild. The manufacturers have over time increased the cooling capacity of their standard fitment coolers but in many cases transmission temperature are still higher than would be preferred. Research has shown that fitting a good quality auxiliary cooler can reduce transmission running temperatures by around 20%, an added bonus is that it also eliminates the possibility of water or Glycol contamination of the fluid.
Fitting:
Simply remove the existing heat exchanger and replace it with the adaptor, using Banjo bolt DPO.COOL07 and existing O-rings, connect the auxiliary cooler hoses to the outlet pipes on the adaptor and refit the heater hoses to by-pass the original heat exchanger, job done.
Note: if your transmission was originally fitted with the thin 6 row cooler you can use your existing Banjo bolt. |

Stop those irritating and costly external leaks before your unit is fitted into the car by using a simple method of “Air decay”.Simply feed a regulated low pressure air supply into the transmission and torque converter, normally via the breather. Seal all open

areas using either the original part or alternatively a suitable bung. When the unit reaches pressure close off the tap and wait to see if the gauge decreases, even the smallest leaks show up very quickly.

Actual case scenario
A well know transmission rebuilder preparing an Audi 01J CVT transmission for delivery as a loose unit to another part of the country, used this tool to test the unit before despatch. During the test it was noted that there was an air loss from the unit, so the unit was disassembled and checked. On inspection it was found that the back to back pinion seal had been installed at a slight angle due to wear on the seal installer. The fault was corrected and after reassembly tested again with a positive result.
The rebuilder says if the unit had been sent out in its original condition he would have had to transport the vehicle back to his workshops, remove the unit, rectify the fault, refit the unit and transport the vehicle back to the customer. On balance he estimates that the “Leak Test Tool” saved him over two thousand pounds and the anger of a very dissatisfied customer.

Aisin Warner 55-50SN

As you may be aware supplies of reasonably priced new valve bodies for the
55-50SN are limited and eventually it will become more difficult to obtain them. To counter this problem Automatic Choice are pleased to announce the availability of high quality remanufactured valve bodies for this transmission.
These units are remanufactured for us by Mackie Automatic Transmissions, who are renowned for their high quality engineering and attention to detail. All units are fully rig tested and calibrated before dispatch and will have been re machined and modified as required. Please note that after fitting a replacement valve body no matter which type of vehicle you are working on, performing an adaptive relearn procedure is imperative to avoid shift-feel and engagement-feel problems.
At the moment these are available only as OCR, but we hope as more core becomes available, that we will be able to supply exchange units. It is expected that most units received early morning by Mackie’s will be turned around for dispatch the same evening in much the same way as torque converters are currently handled.

Esso LT 71141 Transmission Fluid |
Esso LT 71141 also know as LifeGuardFluid5 is a semi synthetic transmission fluid specially formulated for use in ZF five speed transmission units, although it is also required for the ZF4HP20 transmission. All ZF units requiring Esso LT 71141 can be identified by the colour of the ID tag, which is green. Please note that this fluid is not suitable for ZF six speed units which require LifeGuardFluid6 or LifeGuardFluid6 Plus.
It is becoming increasingly important to use the correct grade of oil in late model transmissions as failure to do so can result in numerous shift and torque converter related problems with eventual failure of the unit.
ZF’s response to using alternative fluids is quite clear, they say the design specification of these units require the use of Esso LT 71141. There is no alternative or equivalent oil, Esso is the only supplier of LT 71141. The transmissions are not designed to run on any other fluid and if installed you run the risk of premature failure. The transmissions are equipped with sophisticated torque converter lockup control (TCC) systems and the correct oil specification is critical to their function and operation. One of the main functions of the oil is to provide the correct coefficient of friction and cooling of the torque converter lockup lining during regulated slip conditions. The longevity of the lockup lining could be adversely affected by the use of the incorrect grade of fluid and in most cases deterioration in shift quality and lockup engagement is also experienced.
With this in mind it would seem unwise to supplement this oil with any other, as you could lay yourselves open to warranty claims upon any subsequent failure of the transmission.
Esso LT 71141 is an extremely well specified fluid and many of our customers have used it with success in other transmissions requiring high quality semi synthetic fluids such as DP0 and JF506E, a case in point is the Jaguar X-Type fitted with the JF506E transmission, if after rebuild these units are not filled with the recommended fluid, the oil pumps are often very noisy, sometimes to the extent that imminent failure is expected. On a couple of occasions customers have told us that they have drained as much fluid from the transmission and converter as possible, refilled it with Esso LT71141 and hey presto all is quiet.
Although we would always advise using the oil grade recommended by the manufacturer, it does seem that if you are unable for any reason to use the correct grade, you may find that Esso Lt 71141 will fill your needs for a premium quality ATF.

| Hi capacity 9 row coolers for Renault DP0 and Peugeot/Citroen AL4 transmissions |
| Quite often the coolant flow through the old cooler is poor due to silting up, this coupled with the fact that the original coolers fitted to these transmissions are quite often of low capacity, leads to overheating of the transmission fluid. If the transmission fluid becomes overheated it can lead to some of the common problems experienced with these units, such as dropping out of gear when coming to a halt and abnormal reverse engagement. In many cases fitting the higher capacity 9 row cooler with the correct grade of synthetic fluid will cure or prevent these problems and save costly comebacks. |

| 5L40E Intermediate Cushion Spring |

These Bearings are a common failure on the above units and often deposit fi ne metal particles throughout the system, resulting in shift problems due to contamination of the solenoids.

5L40E Accumulator Springs
Quite often when rebuilding these units it has been found that one or more of the accumulator springs have broken. We are now able to supply these springs and have them available in two lengths as listed below.

01J Selective Clutch Kits
When rebuilding the forward clutch and reverse brake on these units, it is necessary to check the clearances when replacing the friction and steel plates, this is especially important when upgrading the six plate forward clutch pack to the seven plate assembly (Audi only recommend that this upgrade be carried out on 3.0Ltr petrol vehicles and 1.9Ltr, 2.5Ltr diesel vehicles), all 1.8Ltr, 2.0Ltr & 2.4Ltr Petrol vehicles should be fitted with 6 plate forward clutch packs. After carrying out the 7 plate upgrade it is required that an ECU flash upgrade be carried at the dealer.
